Privacy policy

Effective August 15, 2026

Cloud documents stay in your account. Analytics and recordings are opt-in and masked.

The clauses below are the whole policy. If anything here is unclear, write to us and we will answer in plain language.

01

Information collection and use

The MATH Keys cloud editor stores your documents, files, and account profile on our servers so you can sign in, compile, share, and pick up work on another device.

If you opt in, we also collect product analytics: page views, coarse device and browser data, and named events such as opening a document or clicking a plan. We identify cloud-editor users by an internal account id only — never by email, name, or document content.

The Chrome extension can still keep equation drafts on your device. That local storage is separate from the cloud editor.

02

Cookies and local storage

We use a small consent record in local storage (and a PostHog cookie after you accept) so we remember your analytics choice and can measure opted-in sessions.

Sign-in, billing, and the editor also use cookies or local storage that are required to keep you logged in and to save preferences. Those are not advertising cookies.

03

Analytics and session recordings

PostHog (PostHog Inc., United States) is our analytics processor. After you opt in, PostHog may record a masked session: the chrome and click path, not the paper.

Recordings mask form fields and block document panes — source, PDF pixels, math, file names, comments, and emails should not appear. Replay does not start unless you accept.

You can decline the banner, or clear the mk-analytics-consent local-storage key and reload. After opt-out we stop sending events and recordings.

04

Error reporting

Crashes and server errors go to Sentry so we can fix bugs. Sentry is not used for session replay of the editor. We strip document-like text, tokens, and emails from those reports.

05

Service providers

We use third-party processors to run the product: Google Cloud and Firebase (hosting, auth, storage), Stripe (billing), PostHog (opt-in analytics and masked recordings), and Sentry (errors).

They process data only to provide those services. We do not sell your personal information.

We have a data processing agreement with PostHog. See PostHog's subprocessors.

06

Children’s privacy

MATH Keys is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

07

Changes to this privacy policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Review this page periodically. Changes are effective when they are posted.
